How To Play

Master of Puppet is a turn based strategy boardgame with resource management and a deck building mechanic. Each turn, cards are played to build and upgrade a squad of Mechs. The Mechs can be moved around on the board to protect strategic locations, gather resources, find treasure and, most importantly, attack enemies.

Cards

Your deck will contain a combination of 4 different types of cards in various levels of upgrades. Common to all 4 types is that they consume resources when they are played - this is denoted at the bottom of the card with a lightning bolt (energy resource) and a cog (metal resource).

Orange cards are Mech cards. Playing a Mech card on a tile on the board will spawn a new Mech. Each Mech has a unique primary weapon and abilities, but can be further enhanced with a skill and up to 4 powerups.
Green cards are Skills. Skills are applied to Mechs to give them an additional unique ability. The Skill remains active on the Mech until it is replaced, but have a cooldown period that must expire between uses.
Blue cards are Powerups. Like Skills, a powerup can only be played on a Mech. Unlike Skills, Powerups are consumed when triggered so you will need to constantly add new Powerups to your Mechs.
Purple cards are Area Effects. These cards are simplified Mechs in that once placed on the board you can no longer interact with them. Powerups and Skills does not apply to Area Effects.

How To Play

At the start of your turn, you are given new cards from the deck so that you always have 5 cards. You now have the following options:

  1. Do nothing and pass your turn for an extra move in the following turn.
  2.  Stack cards on hand by simply dragging them on top of each other. Each stack of cards is played as one card, so stacking effectively lets you play more than the limited 2 cards per turn. Powerups and Skills can be stacked on Mechs, and identical cards of any type can be fused to generate higher level cards of the same type. There is no cost to this, but keep in mind that the cost of playing the card becomes the sum of its parts.
  3. Discard a card by dragging it to the discard button, this will immediately draw a new card from the deck. Beware that discarding mech cards is final - these cards are not returned to the deck but will be removed from play, the same as if the mech had been killed. You can discard one card each turn.
  4. Play a card by dragging it onto the board. Arrows and cursors will indicate legal drops, but generally Area Effect and Mech cards needs an empty tile while Powerups and Skills can only be dropped on Mechs. You may play 2 cards per turn.
  5. Drag a Mech to a new location or use them to attack enemies on the board - both of these options counts as "moves" and you may make 2 moves each turn, or 3 if you passed your previous turn. Keep in mind that some cards when played, will allow you to perform moves for free.  Select any Mech to get details about the Mech and see its potential attack targets. With one of your own Mechs selected, you may tap any of the highlighted targets to attack it.

When done, press "Next" (or "Pass") to end your turn.
